Incense Stories

Anyone who is familiar with downtown Northampton is doubtless also familiar with the men who sell incense for charity, out on the streets, every day. Well this week at Faces we were forced to take drastic measures, and ask them to move their business to the front of someone elses store. A large number of customers had told us they felt uncomfortable darting in and out of the store as they struggled to avoid these persistent salesmen. The question is, did we do the right thing? Was a tiny majority of our customers over represented in this or do you all agree that you want to be able to walk in and out without the sales pitch. Let us know!

I for one have always wanted to hide out and follow one or both of those guys home one night to see if there really any church that their money goes to. I mean they have been working the streets in Northampton for years! At least by this time those guys know who I am and have stopped bugging me.

Overall, Northampton has way too many people working the sidewalks for spare change and donations!

I think it was a smart move, because while many people can live with it, everyone can live without it, plus more attention is drawn to your store when there aren’t salesman lingering around!

  3. Faces Says:

thanks Sally, we agree. We want the whole experience of Faces to be an enjoyable one for people and that starts before they walk into our front doors!
